The Girls’ & Boys’ Brigade organisation though its new in this parish, had been in the world-wide for a long time. The Girls’ & Boys’ Brigade is an international and inter-denominational Christian youth organisation. It’s a uniformed based group that focuses on spiritual, educational, social and physical development of boys and girls.
The motto of the Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade is “To seek, to serve and follow Christ”.
The Girls’ Brigade
The Girls’ Brigade was founded in Dublin in 1893 by Margaret Lyttle. The aim being a Christian organisation was to help girls become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and through self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment of life.
The girls’ brigade promotes a just society where all people are equally valued. It also acknowledges the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour according to the Scriptures and to seek to fulfil its aim to the glory of one God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Boys’ Brigade
The Boys’ Brigade was founded in Scotland in 1883 by Sir Alexandra Smith. The aim of the Boys’ Brigade is the advancement of Christ Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-control and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.
The principle of the Boys’ Brigade are taught to fear God and other Christian principles in the Holy Bible.
The Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade in Our Saviour’s Church TBS
The Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade was founded in our parish late in the year 2008, but did not come to life fully till year 2009. The Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade is usually lead by the chaplain, who is the Vicar-in-charge, in each parish, and each sector is control by a captain.
The Boys’ Brigade of Our Saviour’s Church is the 26th Lagos Company while the Girls is the 19th Lagos Company.
* The inauguration and 1st enrolment service of the Boys’ Brigade 26th Lagos Company, Investiture of the Chaplain; Installation of the Boys’ Captain, Dedication of the Girls’ Brigade 19th Lagos Company and
dedication of the patrons and patronesses took place on the 27thSeptember, 2009.
* During the year, the two captains and some lieutenants attended camps at various times and places. Also, during the year 2009,we visited with Boys and Girls, other parishes to see how things are done.
* We meet every Saturday within the church premises for Bible Study, Practice and Training. The boys and girls had a complete training scheme and method for the youth.
Our goals is the complete character, moral development of boys and girls through several programmed activities and different methods. The youths are to be prepared to render selfless services to the society and to take responsibility for themselves and others.
They also learn life’s skills and lesson that will help build a character to venture out as a citizen of the world. Through this diversified training scheme, the boys a girls become a God fearing, discipline and patriotic citizen that will be useful to himself/herself, the church of God and the society.
The Boys and Girls brigade of Our Saviour’s Church is being sponsored majorly by our patrons and patronesses.
