BIBLE STUDY – FRIDAY, 17TH AUGUST, 2018
THEME FOR THE YEAR: UNLIMITED RICHES OF GOD’S GRACE
TOPIC: Our obligations to the Ministers
TEXT: Romans 15: 23-33
AIM: To teach and/or remind the believers that we have Scriptural obligations toward the ministers of the Gospel; obligations which we must make efforts to fulfill for Christ’s sake and for our own good.
INTRODUCTION
Caring for those in the pastoral office is a scriptural obligation. It may be one of the more awkward items to talk about. How do you, as a congregation, care for your pastors? Pastors are tired, yet joyful. Pastors are discouraged, yet constantly refreshed. Pastors have one of the most joyful, rewarding, and refining work. But how should congregational members care for their pastors?
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
(1) Paul asked for the prayers of the faithful in Romans 15:30. What are the three major areas which Paul wanted his people to intercede for him? (Romans 15:30-32).
(2) According to 1 Thess. 5:12-13, what are the two major obligations of the members to the ministers of the gospel?
(3) What is your take on what Paul the apostle said in Romans 15: 27?
(4) Discus these areas of our obligations to the ministers of the gospel:
(i) Pray for him and with him,
(ii) Talk to him about his sermon
(iii) Show concern for his wife and children
(iv) Tell him how the Lord is blessing and growing you through his ministry
(v) Assist him financially and help him to build his library when you have the means.
CONCLUSION
Take a spiritual inventory check. Are you fulfilling your spiritual mandate toward your pastor? What are other ways you could care for your pastor?
