The Men’s Christian Fellowship of Our Saviour’s Church came into being through divine inspiration received by our Vicar Venerable Samuel Igein Isemede. He was who charged the men of the church about June 2007 to come together and form a fellowship. During the service one Sunday morning in June 2007 the Vicar invited men who were led towards the establishment of a Men’s Fellowship to come forward after the service for a short meeting.
The short meeting led to the selection of Prince ‘Kole Ojutalayo as Convener with Sir Ziggy Azike acting as secretary, Mr. Frank Ogbemi was very much instrumental to the setting up of the fellowship. Many of the Elders of the church namely Frank Ogbemi, Allison Ayida, Professor J. O. Sodipo, Dr. E. A. Ikomi and Professor Akin Adesola encouraged the team that volunteered to work with the convener in the arrangements towards establishing the Men’s Fellowship.
Forms were designed to capture information about the men in the church. These forms were distributed to all the men in the church. Many completed the forms and returned them to the office. They were then used to collate a Directory of prospective members.
The first meeting of Men’s Christian Fellowship was held on Sunday 22nd of July 2007. A steering committee was set up at this meeting to prepare for the inauguration of the fellowship came October 2007.
The Vicar invited the Rt. Revd. Tunde Adeleye to conduct a seminar for men of Our Saviour’s Church on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of October, 2007 with the theme “In understanding, Be Men”. This seminar was a huge success as more than 120 men attended. It was during the Seminar that Rt Revd. Adeleye proposed the name of the Fellowship as Men’s Christian Fellowship.
On Sunday 14th of October 2007 MCF was formally inaugurated at Our Saviour’s Church. About a month later precisely on the 18th November 2007, MCF held a full general meeting with 87 members in attendance. Elections were held and the Executive Committee put in office.
Men’s Christian Fellowship has since then been established. The fellowship has had a number of breakfast fellowship meetings, sponsored the carol of nine lessons and participated in several church outreach programmes. It also sponsored the decoration of the church for the Centenary Celebrations.
It is however sad to note that the attendance at the weekly fellowship meetings has not been encouraging. Many members say that they will attempt to attend specific programmes of interest since they are involved in other fellowships. It is as a result of this that we decided to hold meetings once a month instead of the weekly ones.
